About Rob

Rob joined the Geollect team in June 2023 as a Python Developer. He has a solid grounding in engineering, having graduated from Cardiff University with a First Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Having taken a module in “Computer Sciences” during his 2nd year at Cardiff, he was adamant that he wouldn’t need to continue using for loops and if statements once that semester was over.

Fast forward two years, and he found himself utilising plenty of coding skills as he started his internship for Rolls-Royce in Derby. He spent part of his year developing a Visual Basic tool that automated the statistical analysis of smoke emissions data from experimental rig tests. The outputs from this would go on to help design cleaner, more efficient large civil jet engines.

After this internship, Rob continued working for Rolls-Royce in Bristol, where he worked on a variety of projects. These ranged from designing a new test facility for Team Tempest to developing software that automated Computational Fluid Dynamic analyses using C++ and the NXOpen API.

The majority of Rob’s spare time is centred around sports. He captained one of his University’s Men’s hockey teams, has taken part in a white-collar boxing event and ran the 2017 Cardiff Half Marathon.

In the summer, weekends are often spent hacking his way around the local golf course, watching Somerset CCC at Taunton’s County Ground or surfing in North Devon. The rest of the summer is spent trying to save as much money as possible to ensure a week of skiing in the Winter.
